«Children bursting with enthusiasm», «Spectacular», «Impressive», «Virtuosos of dance», «Explosions of joy on the stage» these are but some of the accolades that The Children and Youth Ballet of Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba (LADC ) have received after each of their performances.

The Children and Youth Ballet was founded in February 2002 at the initiative of Professor Lizt Alfonso as a means to nurture professionalism in talented youth. Children are selected who, during their first years of preparation at the Company’s school, demonstrate that they possess sufficient qualities and aptitudes to become future dancers. The students receive training in a variety of subjects including Ballet, Flamenco, Physical Fitness, Choreography and Fusion – all elements of LADC’s characteristic style. They form the spring upon which the adult company draws.

The Children and Youth Ballet participates in multiple shows throughout the year. In Cuba, they appear in the most prestigious theatres, and abroad they have impressed the public in both Canada and Germany.

It was in Canada, 2007, that the youth company made its international debut together with the adult cast of VIDA, during its Canadian premiere at the Teatro Royal Alexandra in Toronto.
VIDA won the prestigious Dora Mavor Moore Award (2008) in the category of choreography – the most important performing arts prize that Canada awards. Later, in 2016, The Children and Youth Ballet returned with success to Canada in their production of NIÑOS DE CUBA, becoming one of the main attractions of the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE). In Germany, the Company presented NIÑOS DE CUBA in the summer of 2014, hosted by theTivoli Theatre Schmidt in Hamburg.

In 2016, the Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba School, including its Children’s and Youth Ballet, received the respected International Spotlight Award of the US President’s Committee for Arts and Humanities. USA First Lady Michelle Obama personally presented this esteemed award to the Company at the White House.
